Our Methodology — How We Evaluate Private Jets, Phinisis, and Partners

Our Curation & Vetting Methodology

A Brisbane to Komodo journey is a complex symphony of logistics, luxury, and nature. The quality of the experience depends entirely on the excellence of each individual component. This is why we have developed a comprehensive, multi-point methodology for evaluating and selecting every partner and asset involved in our journeys. Our recommendations are not arbitrary; they are the result of rigorous, in-person assessments designed to ensure uncompromising safety, quality, and reliability.

Phase 1: Aviation Partner Evaluation

The safety and comfort of your flight from Brisbane (BNE) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) is our first priority. We only work with IATA-accredited charter operators whose standards exceed regulatory requirements.

Aircraft & Maintenance (40-Point Check)

  • Aircraft Type & Age: We specialize in modern, long-range jets like the Bombardier Global 6000 and Embraer Praetor 600, ensuring performance and comfort. Aircraft must be under 10 years of age.
  • Maintenance Records: We audit maintenance logs to verify compliance with both the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DJPU) standards.
  • Cabin Excellence: Onboard amenities, cabin noise levels, seat configuration, and connectivity are all scored to ensure a true luxury experience.

Crew & Operations (30-Point Check)

  • Pilot Experience: Captains must have a minimum of 5,000 flight hours, with significant experience in international operations and flying into challenging airports like LBJ.
  • Operational Safety: We review the operator’s Safety Management System (SMS) and their IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) report.
  • Ground Handling: We assess the efficiency and professionalism of their chosen ground handling partners at both BNE and LBJ for VIP service.

Phase 2: Phinisi Liveaboard Evaluation

The phinisi is your home in the heart of Komodo. Our vetting process goes far beyond beautiful photos, focusing on the critical elements of safety, service, and authenticity.

Vessel & Safety (50-Point Check)

  • Seaworthiness: We require a valid Surat Laik Operasi (SLO) or Seaworthiness Certificate and conduct an in-person inspection of the hull, engines, and navigation systems. Last dry-dock date is a key factor.
  • Safety Equipment: We physically check for SOLAS-compliant life rafts, EPIRBs, satellite phones, emergency oxygen, and a fully stocked first-aid station.
  • Crew Credentials: The Captain must hold a minimum ANT II (Ahli Nautika Tingkat II) license with documented experience navigating Komodo’s strong currents. Dive guides must be active, insured PADI/SSI instructors.

Service & Experience (30-Point Check)

  • Crew-to-Guest Ratio: We prioritize vessels with a high ratio to ensure attentive, personalized service.
  • Culinary Program: We evaluate the chef’s experience, menu quality, and ability to cater to sophisticated dietary requirements, emphasizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
  • Sustainability Practices: We audit the vessel’s waste management, water conservation (water makers), and single-use plastic policies. This is a non-negotiable criterion.

Phase 3: Annual Audits & Continuous Improvement

Partnership is not a one-time decision. Our Indonesian operations team, led by our Director, conducts scheduled and unscheduled spot-checks on all partner vessels and service providers throughout the year. We gather detailed feedback from every client to identify areas for improvement. Any partner that fails to maintain our standards is placed on probation or removed from our portfolio. This continuous, iterative process ensures that the quality of a Brisbane to Komodo journey remains consistently exceptional.

Our methodology is transparent and uncompromising because we believe our clients deserve nothing less. To see the experts who carry out this work, please meet our team.
